Samar Omidi

Graduated in MA Production Design for Film & TV at Kingston University London fallowed by BA in Set and costume design at Tehran university, having three years experience in set and costume design, being art director assistant for several movies, TV dramas and theatres in Tehran. My aim is to develop as an Art Director.

Designing for TV and film combines many of my interests and skills; my set and costume design background and the art directory skills and expertise I have learned in my MA in Production Design for film and TV at Kingston University.

I enjoy all parts of the production design process: searching for locations and researching information for the story to create an accurate concept that can be developed and built thinking about the spaces seen through the camera. My interest in all aspects of the industry from the highly researched realism of a period drama to the freedom and fantasy of light entertainment is demonstrated through the variety of projects I have worked on.

Utilising knowledge of computer modelling to observe the designs in three dimensional and ensure that the spaces, viewed through the camera have created the necessary depth and intrigue for the scene. Model making  aids expression of textures, lighting and camera possibilities. In addition, I use prop boards to emphasize on each character and concept visuals to give a complete idea of the mood of the story. All these processes can be hand-made or computer generated, depending on the production necessities.
